Gutiérrez-Villalobos, S., Pro-conflict and pro-cooperation coverage: The San Juan River conflict, [Electronic Version], Conflict & Communication online (2005), Vol.4, No.1

This paper analyzes media coverage of the San Juan River conflict between Costa Rica and Nicaragua. It is a long-lasting conflict over the shared management of a river basin located along the border between the two countries. In March 2002, the governments of both countries agreed to change their approach from confrontation to co-operation. The aim of this study is to see how the Costa Rican press covered the conflict during confrontation, and after its change to co-operation, in terms of pro-conflict versus pro-co-operation coverage.

Loewenberg S., Best Practices Report UNOCI Public Information Office (PIO), (2009)

PIO developed a strategy that evolved into a multi-faceted approach that proactively addresses issues critical to the mission. PIO provides essential information to the Ivorian public, and reaches out with projects and programmes that build confidence in the peace process. Many PIO initiatives promote conflict resolution skills, strengthen peacebuilding capacity in civil society and promote a culture of peace. PIO provides training to media actors to enable them to perform to high professional standards that help maintain an environment supportive of peace.

SFCG, Search for Common Ground – Democratic Republic of Congo. Key findings from 2008 Refugee Repatriation Programme Evaluations

SFCG has been working in the Democratic Republic of Congo since 2001, initially to support the Inter-Congolese Dialogue and subsequently expanding its operations to include media production and training. Since 2006, SFCG has been implementing media-based conflict resolution programming throughout refugee return zones in South Kivu and Katanga and in refugee camps in neighbouring Burundi, Tanzania and Zambia. SFCG’s refugee programming in the DRC underwent two evaluations in 2008: an internal evaluation with support from the United States Department of State Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration in August and September 2008; and an external evaluation by UNHCR in September and October 2008. Primarily, the studies attempted to evaluate the success of radio programming and theatrical performances;
